Austrian Beaker 1854 indentificaton of Maker needed

Post by mikelugg »

Hi dear Forum members,

I am looking for the maker of this Austrian Beaker which has the control Stamp for Vienna 1854 13 lot Silver and a makers Stamp JM.
I have found a List with Austrian Silver and Goldsmiths where three Names and the time frame would fit a match.
Milvius Johann 1850-62,
Müller Josef Jakob 1832-66,
Munter Johann 1853-62.
Could anyone confirm one of these names, or have an idea abot the maker of the Beaker?

Many Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

The item itself is a stirrup cup, designed for serving drinks to someone on horseback. There is no base, as while on horseback, there is no where to place it.

That is correct.
In german it is called a Jagdsturzbecher.
Jagd means hunting. So it is correct to say
it is for serving drinks to people which are
on horseback.
Sturz in this context means upside down, and
Becher means Beaker.
