German Candelabra 1890..Can you tell me more ?
Hi.Thanks before hand.I am new here.
We bought these two candelabra at the London Silver Vaults in 1993.
These were the only thing I was impressed enough to buy as they looked Tudor in design in addition to the C.J.Vander Elizabethan Flatware.
I was told then that they are German Silver Candelabra made about 1890.
Can anyone tell me more please about these ?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I have embedded one of your images for the convenience of our contributors:
See: http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html
The marks could be Hanau pseudo marks; to the left a bunch of grapes, and the 2nd mark another pseudo mark but malformed (if rotated 90 degrees)
Oel.

Re: Please..Help to identify maker of Candleabra.
Good Morning Athana,
Do embed yöur images, many members will not open links. Use IMG on photobucket to cut then IMG in the selection here at 925 to paste.
If you take the time to walk through the section on Hanau Pseudo Marks that Oel provided you will see that there are two very good candidates there who used a bunch of grapes as one of their marks.
While your doing that please take note that there is another mark there in your first image to the far right. Give us a close up please. That may, may, help us all to identify a maker.
Good luck in your search!
Warren

Hi.
Warren I clicked IMG..and inserted the Copied IMG from photobucket..and that link is what I got instead of a picture.

Hmmm let's walk through what I do and believe me I am far from skilled.
When I import to Photobucket my images are very large. In the edit mode I always click resize first, reducing the largest number to 600 or smaller. Sometimes I lock that in but not always. Then move on to contrast and sharpness.
In this case you crop the image then check resize to make sure it's also not too small. What I'm looking at the far right along tha edge, in the dark part of the pantia. If your only able to use the existing image, cropping, contrast, and sharpen may be enough to give us a better of what we are looking at. Then alI I do is click the IMG on the saved image. Then right click on the 925 window after clicking IMG again. Note: even then sometimes the 925 system tells me the image is too large. As a rule I only try to post two images at a time but that is just me.
Do remember too that with any hallmarks and Hanau Pseudo marks in particular a positive identification is not always possible. When reviewing the suggested 925 article scroll down to the lower section to see how many similar marks are not identified.
Let's see what happens.

Re: Please..Help to identify maker of Candleabra.
I really am not lazy..
I've been 3-4 hrs looking at the hallmarks and looking them up and each of the makers on the web..that have similar cluster.
And the "grapes" most similar that ive seen on internet are not Hanau at all..they are the Augsburg ones..?
Under my Candleabra is a zig zag that I see today on web that is on Augsburg's silver..
I try to post again. Thanks Warren..Kristen..I resized smaller, copied IMG..came here and clicked IMG box above..insert(paste) my copied Photobucket IMG and I get a link that is very long & no picture still.
On the acoustic guitar forum I do exactly this and a picture appears?

Re: Please..Help to identify maker of Candleabra.
Here is another possibility if the second mark is a CS with a thick S. As Augsburg 1686 Carl Schuch. He has a second mark at Beschauzeichen deutscher Stadte dated 1690. Still need to have a look at the image above.

Re: Please..Help to identify maker of Candleabra.
Yes. I click that lower right IMG and it says "Copied".
Then the IMG in the little box above and paste in-between the two.
Something happens like this on another forum and I have to clip some of what is inserted away for picture to appear.
And i can hardly remember and i wonder if ill be joining Glen Campbell eventually.. : (

Hi,
The Augsburg city mark is based on a pineapple cone:
Your image, not a pineapple cone but a bunch of grapes with a stem:
The zig zag line made by the assayer is not specific for Augsburg silver only but often seen on older silver and thus copied by ‘Hanau style silver smiths’ to provide their items with the ‘antique look’.
Oel.

Re: Please..Help to identify maker of Candleabra.
Hi.
Thanks so much.
*The marking on the far right I can not get to appear like anything on camera or magnification.
It seems similar to that "indention" that appears near the two hall marks.
*One thing I just noticed which may be significant(?) is the two hallmarks & zig zag underneath, is only on the one of the two Candleabra.
*With my wives phone she photoed & magnified the image of the center hallmark..it is so clear.
I so much must get it on here.Bear with me please.
It is a CP... a CS (if the second letter is a stylized S)..but the P seems very obvious.
My wife says she thinks it is a GP but the bottom of the G/C is broken.
Image is so clear I will get her on it now.
* A few of the Augsberg marks like 222 viewed upside down seems similar..?
Thanks so much.
