Hi all, I'm quite confused about my necklace. Says "Los Castillo Taxco" "Sterling Made in Mexico" "480".
Does the 480 refer to the silver strength? Or does it indicate something else? I've never heard of 480 sterling.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Los Castillo necklace, no stamp just words. Whats 480?

Are you sure it's a 4 and not a 9? 980 would be a silver content. A picture might help. Here's a quote from this site on Mexican silver.
"The intaglio marks "980, 960, 940 & 925" are usually from the mid 1930's to the mid 1940's. "

Hi, it was a little tricky for me at first too. Here's how I do it. Click on this link. Upload your picture. Then click on the picture you just uploaded. That will make it larger. Then cut and paste the address from that page to your post. Here's the tricky part. The address you've just pasted. Like this one.
http://sv1.letmehost.com/img.php?file=sv1/21/ring2.JPG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You have to add to it. Like this.
[http://sv1.letmehost.com/img.php?file=sv1/21/ring2.JPG
Now I put a space between the http: so you could see it. Take that space out. http: Also make sure you put the at the end.
That will make it so we can click on it. Like this.

Good luck!
GEESH!! No wonder you didn't post a picture. I just reread my post and I didn't even give you the link to click on. Here it is. Sorry about that.

I also noticed the first link I posted here for you seems to work without all that adding all that stuff.

Hi Sheila,
"Sterling" indicates the silver fineness of .925, 480 would be the design number. You make a lot of stuff, and Los Castillo did, you need a way to track it.
Regards, Tom
ps. Please have a look at the Guidelines
