.835 and or filigree silver

Post by indianajonez »

Hi, I recently brought 6 napkin brings as I believed them to be filigree silver, the problem I have is when I acid tested the cartouche on the front, it turned green.

Now it's more than probable that this is not silver, but I was wondering if it may be a lower grade silver such as .835 (would .835 silver turn green when acid tested?)

I may try the test again on the filigree itself just in case the cartouche is base metal.

It also passed the magnet test

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi, welcome to the forums.

If you enter acid test in our Search function, top right hand corner, you will find plenty of information.
Acid tests in general; unreliable and destructive.

Best,

Oel
