Help ID Sterling Maker's Mark

Anyone recognize this maker's mark found upon silver flatware with a scrolls & dots pattern? It appears to be a rising or radiant sun above a shield with letters within.

Hi Mike,

The makers mark appears to be Native American; possibly Navajo / Hopi / Zuni althought the very particular pattern of the fork is more modernist, almost Scandinavian. How large is it?

Thank you Warren... I too was thinking NA, however the shield below the radiant sun seemed more like American major manufacturer. The salad forks are 5 1/2" in length.

Had a look around but came up empty for American or Native American. If those are letters and not a symbol or animal what letters do you see? Let's see what others think.

Hi ~ welcome to the forums. At that size, with only three tines and the thicker cutting tine, more likely a dessert/pastry/pie/cake fork. Can't recall seeing that mark before, but personally, see nothing in the appearance of the piece or the mark that's typical of NA silver (other than occasional use of sunrays), am also doubtful that it's an American manufacturer, will move to 'Other Countries' for more exposure...

I agree with Cheryl, this is a pastry fork.

As for the maker, the style of this mark has similarities with many South American manufacturers. Compare with others at: The 20th Century South American Trade

My initial thought too, Trev, though the pattern seems a bit atypical - Argentina was the first that came to mind because of the sun in their coat of arms...

(op) Thanks all for chiming in. I realize this is a pastry/pie fork. I miswrote salad fork in my original query. The forks were accompanied with matching 5 o'clock teaspoons. In all my references I can't find the mark either so I guess it goes in mystery marks section for now.
