Christofle tiny vase/toothpick holder

Post by rynegold »

So I have this little item:

Image

It certainly "looks" like sterling, and is marked with one of Christofle's silver marks except: it's "C's" are backwards. The damn mark is so small that I've also drawn a picture of it, have a look and comment if you know what's up with this little piece. I'm calling it a "toothpick holder" although I suspect it's actually a tiny vase.

By the way, you can clik on any of the photos below and it will take you to Yahoo's "flickr" site where you can then "enlarge" the image and move over it to see specific areas.

Thanks for any help or comments!

Except when making silver. Like this plate for example:

But the vase is plated.
Here is an example for silverplated Christofle, a fork:

You can read a little bit more about Christofle:

Hi Mitch,

I can't explain the reversed 'C''s, unless it is simply an engraver's error (yes, it does happen), but the additional two stars appears to indicate an extra heavy deposit of silver:
