Curious Tea Caddy

Post by dognose »

Hi,

Researching this tea caddy for a friend and wondering if the pseudo marks do reveal a clue to the maker or any other information:

The London import marks reveal the sponsor as H. Landsberg & Son (Louis Landsberg) and the assay date of 1892. The only apparently (to me) genuine Dutch mark found so far is the 1892 date letter.

As I write, I'm informed that some further faint marks have been found and I'll update the topic as soon as I receive the images.

The lower image has the assay office mark 'M' of Schoonhoven, but to the left of that mark there is another faint head mark facing the opposite direction.

Hi Trev,

Image

H13 Herbert Hooijkaas, registered (1875-1909) and the pseudo date letter H, pseudo city mark for Amsterdam, another pseudo mark and the maker’s mark H13 (fat, flat serif) for Hooijkaas.

In this case the tea caddy assayed in Schoonhoven could have been made by Fa.(Firm) H. Hooijkaas 1874-2008; Zilverfabriek Schoonhoven . Could we please see a clear enhanced image of the maker's mark to confirm.
