Help ID 800 German? Jam or Condiment Jar?

Post by lenaglass »

Sorry- I don't know what this is but maybe it's for jam? It's about 3.5 inches in diameter and the cut crystal insert is about 2 inches tall. I think it is German but if anyone recognizes and can suggest a date that would be very helpful! As always, I imagine I see marks that may or may not be there. It is clearly marked 800 but has other marks I can't see clearly or can't recognize.

Many thanks in advance!

Oh, thank you. I guess the oval does look Italian. I think I'll clean this and see if I can find another mark and search through the Italian Silver discussions

It's likely to be Italian, and it's a " formaggiera" (cheese bowl).
It's used for serving the grated Parmesan cheese.
