We are trying to identify the marks and if anyone knows what this item is that would be nice too. Certainly an interesting piece. There are similar marks on the bottom and the lid. I know nothing about this item. I can't readily tell if it's silver or silver plated. I am assuming it's an American piece, but that is only an assumption.
Dimensions: 6" tall x 5 1/2" wide and 5" deep
Box has 4 feet and large embossed designs. There is a lock inside (but no key). When lid is closed you snap it shut. The Engraving on the front is 3 initials - S being the primary letter and 1881 - 1906 Nov 29
This is the marking from the lid with blown up views.
This is the mark located on the bottom
Thanks in advance.
Please Help to Identify Marks and Item
Hello and congrats, beautiful piece. This is Austrian silver, made around 1900. One mark (ladie's head) is the silver mark used until 1922. There should be a number beside the head, most likely a "3" for 800/1000 fineness. To identify the maker it is essential to know whether there is a dot, a line or anything like that between the two letters "F S". It looks like a line on my screen. Best wishes, Bahner
