Russian Silver Alexander Tillander Frame

Post by cwebb86 »

Dear Forum Members,
I am seeking information on this Russian silver and wood picture frame, which I inherited from my Mother. The frame is about 11 3/8” by 8 ¾” and just under 5/8” deep. The frame has a wooden easel back that is removable. On the wooden back, my mother wrote: “Collected in Long Island N.Y. Antique Shop. German Royal Family Coat of Arms. “ (I believe that the coat of arms that my Mother refers to is the monogram (with crown) on the handle of a matching hand mirror which I put in a separate posting. I think that she purchased the two pieces together.) The touch marks on the bottom of the silver frame are pictured. I found similar marks on the wonderful 925/1000 Russian marks site. The touchmarks indicate Alexander Tillander , maker, Assay master Viktor Savinsky Moscow 1868, and the city mark for St Petersburg. Thanks so much for any additional help you can give me.
