Help with hallmark

Post by Simpson360 »

Can you please let me know what this hallmark means etc

E P a shamrock with 3 stars in it. B and can't read the last letter possible an M or N.

It also has the code 3878 underneath with 4gill.

It is my great aunts who is 92 and has had it many years.

It's a metal teapot with a floral design and looks really old.

Thanks you in advance

This is an electroplate mark of the Birmingham company, Barker Brothers (see http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_B.html). The letters on the right are BM making EPBM (electroplated Britannia metal). 3878 is most likely a pattern number or some other form of factory identification and 4 gills (= 1 pint) is a measure of capacity, although I have to say that the teapot looks as if it might be bigger than that.
