I have a set of 6 of these teaspoons and have no idea where they originated from and if they are silver. Can someone please advise? The only markings on the spoon is 800... TIA
No doubt this spoon is from Indonesia and marked for 800 standard silver.
My understanding of Yogya silver is congruent with the information in the link provided: meticulously handcrafted and signed by an artist, even if unidentified.
I wonder if the term "Yogya silver" is broad enough to include this rather crudely mass-produced spoon that probably dates to the mid-1960s if not later.
Thank you DR for shedding a little more light on this.. and thank you admin for enlightening me on the posting requirements. I look forward to some good reads on here.
My understanding is that Yogya silver refers more specifically to the elaborate repousse style, so these spoons would not be considered Yogya silver. They are however definitely Indonesian, showing the wayang figure on the ends. I have a set of these spoons too, from my family.
