HELP with a Hallmark

Post by skyhart »

I recently discovered that 2 little wooden trinket boxes I had sitting collecting dust on a shelf both had silver "tops". I just wondered if anyone can identify the silver marks that are stamped into the silver. The "925" of course is the silver content mark and PELLEGRINI is possibly the name of the trinket box maker or retailer but it the very small mark (lozenge shape) I am having trouble with. I tried to get a very close up picture of the mark (it is very small) and from what I can read it may be DH, BH, 3H OR DW, BW, 3W on the left and then it looks like it says "et" and then a star. I was looking on line at Italian marks but apparently the "star" on Italian marks is on the left of the lozenge NOT the right. So I am at a loss as to what this mark might be..... Any help greatly appreciated. THANKS

Maybe someone can explain how I post a photo???

These are the boxes - hallmarks both in bottom left hand corners.

Hi,

You are reading the mark with the numbers and letters on, upside down.

Looks like two numbers and two letters. This will be the key to identification.

Hi,

I'm really not sure, possibly 28 MC.

If so, then that is:

AG3 di Quarchioni Gerry & C. snc
Via Giovanni XXIII 71-73
62010 Montelupone (MC)
Italia

You could try gently cleaning the mark with hot soapy water and a cotton bud to see if that improves clarity.

Is the mark on the other piece any clearer?

The marks on the other box are worn a bit too much to get a clearer view I think. And I realize you are right - on Italian marks the first 2 should be a number with no letters, so it is 20-something.... I will try cleaning the better one more & see what happens.

OK here's another picture - does indeed look like a MC - number is till a bot vague - could be 28; could be 23?

I would go with 28 MC.

Hopefully we'll hear the thoughts of others.
