Can you also shed some light on that symbol before the lion, never came across that before.

Your tray is modern. The mark you have asked about is the post 1974 Tudor Rose for Sheffield which replaced the Crown.
Makers/Sponsor mark = C .J. V over Ld for C J Vander Ltd.
Tudor Rose = Sheffield
Lion Passant = Sterling
Date letter P = 1989
