Maker H L V on spoon
Re: Maker H L V on spoon
Kindly show all marks. This will narrow search to Paris or provincial, assuming of course that the object is French.
Re: Maker H L V on spoon
Hi Jayt,
There are two other hallmarks on the spoon:
The second "rooster" (outside Paris) from 1809 to 1819
And "The old man" (Paris) 1819-1838
Better pictures tomorrow I hope (That is the spoon of a friend)
But until then ...

A other picture, that's what I see, and sorry it's not the "old man" but the department guarantee outside Paris, and I can't see the number :

Re: Maker H L V on spoon
Thanks for posting clear pictures of all marks. When you said you had the "old man" and I saw a circular reserve, I began to have serious doubts. But now I see perfect concordance between the marks, so all is well.
You have a mark for 950 standard silver made in the French provinces between 1809-1819: the rooster facing right, standing on one leg in an oval reserve with a border. You have a guarantee mark for medium weight objects used in the provinces between 1809-1819: the head of a warrior facing right in a circular reserve. Unfortunately the number on the warrior's helmet is too rubbed to see clearly, so you can't determine which province. As there is no single directory of all French provincial makers' marks, it will be a hit-or-miss operation to find who made your spoon.
Good luck!
