Confirming James Darquits, Jr Sterling Mark

Post by CSBAW »

I have what I believe to be an English stuffing spoon manufactured in 1784 in London by James Darquits. But I would like any assistance confirming that I have read the marks correctly. Thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.

I agree with your reading of the hallmark as London, 1784, but this is not the mark of James Darquits, who didn't register his first mark until 1788. Having said that I have no other suggestion to make.

Phil,

Thank you for confirming the London and date marks. I'll keep digging to determine the maker. Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

Give the marks a clean out with hot, soapy water and a cotton bud/chewed cocktail stick. Some more detail may be revealed.
