Post by byronbay55 »

Hi!

Can anyone interpret this town mark? Prussia 18th C? Also marked "12" (Loth)

Is it unicorn? If so it could be Schwäbisch Gmünd. 12 Loth was not uncommon. Cannot tell if your pendant is really 18th century. Is the crucifix enameled? Champleve?

Hi!

Thx. Yes perhaps Schwäbisch Gmünd. Then it is more likely late 19th C, right?
Looks like enameled.

Right, more likely the first half 19th century. Enameling is interesting. If it`s champlevé, black cross should be carved to create a ``cell``, filled with vitreous enamel and then fired. The figure of Jesus should have two prongs inserted through holes bent in the back.
