Vienna sugar shaker 1807, maker K.S.?

Post by Jelcas »

Dear experts!
I have a sugar shaker, hallmark and makers mark are in the bottom.
Can anyone identify the maker? Could it be Karl Sedlmayer? I don't have any biographical information about him.
Thnx J.

Hi Jelcas,
correct, it is the mark of Karl Sedelmayer, guild entry 1797, died in 1840, is entered in the Vienna guild lists from 1801 to 1828. His tax payments are documented from 1798 to 1812: 5-10 Guilders annualy. The Viennese mark dated 1807 is valid from 1807 to 1809 (no additional hallmarks in 1808 and 1809, besides fake marks) a new type of hallmark was used in 1810.
