Need Help with a Gothic Stamp of U A & S

Post by Scotta »

Hello All,

I'm a newbie here so I will not try to make any mistakes on my first post! First I wanted to say hi to everyone. I'm Scott from Atlanta and I'm looking forward to being able to not only search for answers but to help others who are looking. So in advance, thanks to all.

For my first post, I'm looking for some help on identifying a makers stamp on a lovely silverplate cruet set I recently acquired. The stamp is done in a gothic script and it looks like it says U A & S. You would think something like this would be fairly easy to find but I've searched all over and looked in my books and can't find the maker. I've tried different variations on the first letter but still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Here are some images.

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the Forum.

That's John Nowill & Sons of Sheffield. See: http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_N2.html

Cheers Trev! I would never have thought that it was an N in the middle! Wow. Thanks very much for your help and good luck to England in the Six Nations Grand Slam hunt this weekend!
