Need Help Identifying this Silver

Post by jennifersaks »

I have a collection of silver spoons and forks (large serving size) from my husband's family. They came from Poland in 1939 with these. I've taken photos of the hallmarks--there are two different hallmarks, although the style is the same. One has a Polish crest on the handle.

I guess I didn't understand...I thought I had to save my photos to an external source and then provide a link. ??

Okay, trying this once again. I hope it's right this time. I'm hoping to find some help identifying this silver:

Hello, Jan Galecki from Lublin, active ca.1840-1880. As to the crest - possibly the Russian double headed eagle. Best wishes, Bahner

Thank you Bahner! That is good to know. I wondered if that eagle might be Russian. The borders were changing so often...
The hallmark on about half the spoons looks to me like it says Szekwek, but I can barely read the last part, so I'm not sure. Does that sound familiar? It says 1896 on it.

Looks like Polish lower nobility crest. Polish original word was Herb (reference to the clan as well to the coat of arms at the same time). Landowners families often obtained titles from the partitioning monarchies. Without heraldic symbols on the central shield it`s almost impossible to identify.

Thanks...only one of the 9 or so pieces has a crest, and there are two separate hallmarks between them all. Maybe they bought some stray peices somewhere because they matched the others (other than the crest)...
