Authentic Hungarian mark?

Post by 2209patrick »

Hello Tom, great to have you back.
Someone asked me about a silver jewelry chest that they just bought from overseas. They were told the marks were Austrian / Hungarian. Checked my copies of Tardy's and Jan Divis's book and did find a similar mark used in Austria and Hungary. Problem is, the mark on the jewelry chest has the letter P on each side of the head.
I'm thinking one P stands for Budapest and the other (as suggested in Tardy's) is the mint mark for Hungary. Could anyone tell me if this is an authentic Hungarian mark?

Hello, neither Knies nor Bauer document an Hungarian mark like this. There should be a number, not a second letter beside the head. Strange. Best wishes, Bahner

Thanks for your response Bahner. No one seems to have seen this mark before.
