Long spoon with silver end
Long spoon with silver end
A spoon measuring 23.5cm with a sliver end.
The hallmark looks like Sheffield, J.Cook & Son and 1907. I am not sure about the year though.
Can anybody tell me what the rest of the spoon is made of? I thought it might be plastic or bone. Its flexible and lets light through it. And why would someone stick a silver end on it?
Any help is much appreciated.
Re: Long spoon with silver end
Hi,
It's a typical horn spoon made for the Scottish souvenir market. The maker appears to be John Grinsell & Sons: http://www.925-1000.com/bx_jGrinsellSS_B.html
The year of assay was 1907.

Hi,
You are right about the maker and the date but Birmingham anchor, right?
Most probably bone. Ornate late Victorian, nice spoon, silver end added for a good aesthetic reason.

Striking similarity, both with serif, this one sans-serif. Have no idea what they made. Trev is much more experienced.
