Unusual silver serving set mystery
Unusual silver serving set mystery
I just obtained a very unusual silver (tested to be) serving set and I cannot find out anything on them. I have a few books but I did not see anything close to what the hallmarks were and I checked online with no results.
I cannot seem to upload a picture of them and their foreign hallmarks so if someone could tell me how to do that I would appreciate it. I would love to learn more about these as they were hand made.

Re: Unusual silver serving set mystery
I'm sorry but I'm an old coot that doesn't know how to paste and add pictures. I did go to the and got 2 photos uploaded but to get them to show up here is hard for me to understand so I guess I am out of luck unless I can email the pics I have to someone and they can upload them for me.
Re: Unusual silver serving set mystery
OMG I don't know what I did exactly to get this picture up but I will try again for the picture of what they look like!

Shoot, now when I preview the picture goes away.

Well done with the image. Can you try again and show us an image of the whole piece?

Oh my gosh I can't believe I did the picture transfer all on my own!!!! I didn't even need my 4 year old granddaughter to help!
Re: Unusual silver serving set mystery

Here is the backside of the spoon which the hallmarks look a little different than the fork.

And here are the stems of this set.

Hi
The chalice mark seems very similar to the one showed on this thread :

This would be the mark of J. D. Schleissner & Söhne, see the thread above for more information.
Regards.

Thank you so much, you are awesome.
It says that the company is still going strong even after the deaths of the founder and son, so how would I find out how old these are?

Re: Unusual silver serving set mystery
Hi,
German auction houses describe their production as ``Historismus um 1900``. Most of the items one can see are either ``second half 19th century`` or ``c.1900``. There must be silver made much earlier in 19th century but not documented and scarce. After all, they had 3000 workers in 1907. Pieces raised on stake, hand embossed and chiseled are good candidates for earlier production. Mechanical stamping and casting (your spoon and fork) was used later to meet increased demand.

Sorry, admin. about the valuation request I made, I guess I didn't read all the rules.
I do appreciate this forum and the wonderful people on it with valuable information. There is just no greater place to get information in my humble opinion.
