Georg jensen hand hammered bowl marked with a W

Post by RebeccaB »

Hello,

I'm looking for identification of, what I think is an artists mark, on a Georg Jensen bowl I own. The mark looks like the engraved mark from the 1930s. There is also a large W with shading and diagonal lines engraved inside of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know of a Jensen designer who used a W mark. Here's a list of some of the designer marks seen on Georg Jensen pieces.

Hello, maybe it is not a designer's mongram at all, but that of a former owner or donator ? A pic might tell.... Best wishes, Bahner

Hi Rebecca,
Yes, as Bahner suggested, the "W" is an owner's monogram. The pattern #424 tells us that the piece was designed around 1926. Looks to me, like a Gundolph Albertus design, but may well be Johan Rohde or Jensen himself, many of the Jensen designers of this period worked in a similar vein.
Can you describe the little marks on either side of the - 925S - ?

Regards, Tom

Thank you Tom,

Near as I can tell, after some more cleaning, they are just deep round holes.
