Hi there,
I recently bought a solid silver albert chain and would like to find out a little more about it.
I cannot seem to locate an "City" mark to be able to date is properly, it has the maker marks R.P and the date letter N (capital) I did suspect it was Robert Pringle & Sons but the date letter N doesn't correspond with the years they were in operation.
Hopefully someone here can help me solve this puzzle.
Thanks in advance
Andy

Re: Albert Chain - Help identifying maker and date
Welcome to the forum, Andy.
The date letter looks as if it is a Chester assay, N being the date code for 1896/97. Robert Prngle & Sons were using a R·P mark in a cut-corner rectangular punch at this time so I'm pretty that they are the sponsors.

Awesome, thanks Phil.
1896 that's a lot older than I imagined.
Thanks for your help
