Alpaca spoon

Post by Takashi »

Hi,

Lately I got an unearthed spoon in Italy. The spoon has a mark on the handle which writes "ALPACCA GP". I know what alpacca means but don't know what GP means. Does anyone have any ideas about this mark?

Thank you,

Hi Takashi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Just to assure you we are not ignoring you, I think you have just got us beat with this one.

'GP' is likely to identify the actual maker and hopefully someone will come along with something more positive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_silver

Talks about the Chinese having a metal called Paktong. Eventually the Germans ended up making it themselves instead of trading it with China. Or that is what I gathered from the article, which is interesting reading btw. I was thinking the mark on your spoon was "German Paktong" or some variant.
