Need help with a maker mark + Warranted?

Post by Sparta5 »

I have a spoon marked Ira S Town who was a known maker of coin silver spoons but unlike all the examples I have seen online this one is marked Warranted. Could this mean plated? or what? Looks and feels like solid coin silver as it is quite flexible.

Hi,

Just a note on Ira Strong Town:

Ira S. Town, of Montpelier, Vt., who was at one time a silverware manufacturer, died, Saturday night, at the home of his son, 60 W. 84th St., New York. Mr. Town was manufacturing silverware as early as 1830. He came to New York in 1882. The cause of his death was general debility.

I would think the word 'WARRENTED' was just added as a guarantee of quality. I would be surprised if this was anything less than Coin Silver.
