wine timbale

Post by nicollette »

Hello ~ first time question. looking through post german markings. Moon and crown 835 seem to match my tiny wine tasters. but that is all that is marked on the bottom, and the order is as follows. 835 crown moon. can some one date and identify maker? 1' 3/4 timbale's simple etched grape vine circles each.

Hello, there never was a central assay office in Germany, so nobody controlled, how or if the makers followed the hallmarking law. They should have punched: halfmoon, crown, finenenss, but if they did not, nobody said anything. Without a maker's mark one has no chance of finding out who made this. One can narrow down the date a little: 835 was uncommon in Germany before the 1930ies. Could have been made anytime after that. Best wishes, Bahner.
