Pepper or Pounce pot IE

Post by robert12 »

Help needed please on this 7.5 cm tall pot of 50 gr.
Is this a pepper, spice or pounce pot ?
Maker mark only right in the middle of the body and a rubbed mark in the middle of the lid.
No other rubbed marks so possibly a provincial maker ?
Under an eyeglass from various angles I would say more likely IE but could possibly be IF.
The notch or broken/worn stamp near the top of the "I" may help.
Thanks in advance.
Robert

I have found that one of the many and varied marks used by James Erskine of Aberdeen is identical to this one.
Two Scottish silver experts I contacted are both certain of this attribution.
I was fairly sure of a provincial mark and as a start tried the London topic page.
