Hi, An unusual pair of silver bangles, purchased from a collection of antique Chinese jewelry but I don't associate this form with Chinese jewelry I've seen. Hoping someone can comment, they are marked. Thanks for looking:)
Firm mark is Baoyilou (宝宜楼), probably in North China. Two fists motif were seen on lots of bracelets made in later Qing dynasty to 1940s. In Chinese language the characters for fist (拳) and power (权) have the same pronunciation, so the motif (fist or 'holden hand') has an implied meaning of the wish to hold large power in the future.
