Re: Cloisonne salt cellar
Hi,
Enamel is of rather poor quality and marks have several issues.
In my opinion, not authentic.

Looks more complicated.
About the marks ГП и Г.П
Г.П (with dot) - this is the mark of Pavlov Gennady Konstantinovich. I remember a powder compact with the image of a horse, with which this topic began - there is 875 standard and maker`s mark Г.П and it was Pavlov, who worked under the Soviets. Mark ГП (without a dot) whose? Perhaps Pankratiev Egor (George) Grigorievich, because he began to work on silver before Pavlov.
I think it's more logical that he had ГП mark, and Pavlov put a distinctive feature in his mark - a dot.

Re: Cloisonne salt cellar
Hi -
just my opinion:
the salt cellar is not made within the Soviet era (the enamel quality and style/colours is as it was made before the Revolution) - the photo is of no good quality with distorted colors. Fakes have different patterns and colours.
The marks? If it is Pavlov - the marks are wrong. Over the years a dot get "lost" in a new punch...
Too many questionmarks without sense.

Some facts seem to have been forgotten. A maker’s mark is one of its kind. It has been presented, approved and registered in the assay office. Nobody else was allowed to use a similar mark at the same time. Punches are broken, worn and renewed. New marks usually had the same outlook like the old ones. Moreover, is there a dot or not, is a separating factor and cannot be overseen.
There is a clear dot in the mark (Г.П). Pankratiev didn’t have a dot in his mark. In addition, his working period was 1898-1908. The cellar carries the right looking kokoshnik. It was implemented in March 1908, which was Pankratiev’s last working year. Considering the dot and the period, I find it very unlike that the maker would be Pankratiev.
It is not at all excluded that salt cellar could be a Soviet object. The right looking kokshnik was used to 22nd of June 1927. That is 10 year after the revolution. Nobody knows exactly what marks were used and how during that era.
Nevertheless, I support AG2012’s suggestion of the maker being Pavlov mentioned 1912-1915. He is a much better match than Pankratiev.

Re: Cloisonne salt cellar
Interestingly, Pavlov G.K. continued to work after the revolution ! According to the directories, he can be traced up to 1931 (inclusive).
Enamel was obviously of inferior quality, as seen in the post-revolutionary pendant ``Liberty`` but still with 84 standard and Г dot П.
He moved to Barmaleeva street 28 in 1915 and was registered there as silversmith until 1931.Even the phone number remained the same.Но самое интересное, и после революции Павлов Г.К. продолжал работать! По справочникам он прослеживается до 1931 года включительно.

Perfect AG2012, that settles the case!
