Request to identify this hollowware by Standard Silver Co Toronto

Hello,

I have this piece of EPBM hollowware by Standard Silver Co Toronto. The product number is 553, but I don't know what it is. Is it a candy tray, or mini serving tray? It is about 22 cm long, 7.5 cm wide, and 4.5 cm high.



Any help would be appreciated.

::: Take a look at "sugar cube tray" in the most popular search engine, the similarities are striking ::: The dimensions of your object seem quite similar to the one which I had in sterling silver ::: I think the "EP" would mean your object is "electro-plated" which would designate it as base metal with an extremely tiny layer of silver on top of it :::

BTW..the BM in EPBM refers to "Britannia Metal". It would be less commonly used by non-British related sources, but not impossible.

Can we see the maker marks? I tend to trust Cheryl's judgement, but this looks like it might be heavy weight and extra plated. If Standard acted as a commercial grade supplier for the northern trades, a cob corn holder or celerey tray might be possible here. They are usually found as part of the overall china service, but are sometimes executed in plate wares to make a fancier service.

That was my first thought because I've seen many of these "spoon baskets" in my collection of vintage WMF catalogs. My question is: how is a spoon tray used? Is it intended simply to carry spoons to the table? To hold spoons on a buffet table for diners to select one? To carry dirty spoons to the kitchen?
