So they're 9 carat... Is that a worn Edinburgh Mark?, P&R i've not been able to find and Is that a D?

Yes, Edinburgh. The maker was Place & Reid (Alan Place and Michael Reid) of Dairsie, Fife.

I'm not 100% sure of the date letter, perhaps 1966, but you will be able to compare it here:

Think you're right with the letter, would fit into the time frame anyway. A bonkers looking 'L' tho.
