Art Nouveau silver basket, makers mark?

Post by levrier0 »

I have a German basket from the art nouveau period with a makers mark that is unknown to me.

Makers mark Initials AO or OA, AG ? or reversed.. so many possibilities.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,

I'm not an expert, but Depose sounds French to me. The shapes are also reminiscent of the French Art Nouveau, although the forms occur in more European countries. So I can of course have it completely wrong. However a nice looking piece. Success with your quest.

Hello, the word depose can also be found on German objects intended for export. The marks in the second row are from left to right: halfmoon and crown for German silver, 4 as internal production number, wheel and small star as makers mark of Martin Mayer, Mainz. Regards, Bahner
