Hi,
Hoping for some help identifying maker on this cigarette case. My research shows it to be Russian sterling, Moscow circa 1890, assayer Anatoliì Apollonovich Artsibashev. Hopefully this is correct:)
I've not been able to identify the maker, mark is worn but perhaps someone will recognize it. Thanks for looking!
Nancy

Re: Help with maker mark on cigarette case
The maker's mark is so worn that I don't dare to even guess. There are too many alternatives. However, I'd like to inform you that 84 zolotniki is not sterling (925/1000) but 875/1000. Nice object anyway.

Could be АИ but would not be professional to bet on it.

Hi AG2012 -
I must not bet on it - I know - because I not only read some books and think I know all. I have from nearly all major makers several comparison specimens! That makes all a lot easier and plausible.
If you think I gave the wrong answer - show me who it is....
I think this was my last post.
All the best

Hi, Understood. I knew the mark was worn & that someone recognizing it was a long shot. All input is greatly appreciated & extremely helpful! Many thanks. Nancy
Re: Help with maker mark on cigarette case
The problem is that the maker's mark is so worn that you cannot with 100% certainty see what are the letters. The alternatives could be АИ, АН, ДИ, ДН and ??? Of course assumptions can be made, but...? Having that in mind, it is irresponsible naming one particular without a doubt.
Having "nearly all major maker's specimens"...!? There are so many to name unknown masters in Russia, major or not, so claiming that is....
