I'm having trouble determining the common name of this item and what it was used for (my guess is a fish server, but I am unsure), along with its pattern name.

I checked the Gorham pattern image list, but was unable to find a match. Here is the handle pattern:

(I'm working under the assumption that this item is sterling or at least sterling handle. Let me know if this post should go in another category)

Hi, your piece is a crumber, used to catch crumbs that were brushed off the table. The pattern is Regent. the entire piece is silver plated which is why you couldn't the pattern most likely. This day and age most people do use these as fish servers and dessert servers
