John Booth (not in Grimwade)

He was probably the John Booth given in the PR 1773 as Smallworker, St John’s Square [Clerkenwell] who died around 1787.

The will of John Booth, Silversmith of Clerkenwell, Middlesex was proven at PCC (TNA/ PROB 11 /1157/227 ).
It leaves his business to his son, Wilkes Booth (Grimwade p.445) who entered his first mark, as a snuffermaker , a week later on 11 October 1787 at Albemarle Street, Clerkenwell.

John senior seems to have specialised in steel sprung hinged silver items, notably snuffers, asparagus and other serving utensils including most top hinged sugar tongs . His mark is frequently wrongly attributed to John Buckett (Grimwade p.453) who died in 1767
