Final questionable 1600s silver spoon... this one dated 1692

Post by testing123 »

This is the third silver spoon that could be from the 1600s. There are no hallmarks but has an inscription on the bowl... one side has "AN 1692" and across from it is what I think reads, "Erindeing". Is this a possible fantasy piece, or really from 1692? Would this also be Norwegian in origin?

Hi,
Erindring (in memory, remembrance) can be both Danish and Norwegian.
You can test it with new electronic testers and tell us exact composition of the alloy.
What to expect if really that old ?
1.Impurities due to imperfect metallurgy at the time, but also some gold in the alloy.
2. Unusual percentage of silver corresponding to Loth standards rather than e.g, 800.
Not decisive,though, but informative.
It does not look over 300 years old.

This is also a fantasy piece actually in the Norwegian / Swedish 17th-century style but with victorian era embellishments. The entire spoon dates from about 1900 give or take 20 years. It is very well made and beautiful though.
