Hello, I have this old frame that I think is by John and William Deakin, but I'm not positive, especially with the year. It appears that the letter is sideways? Not sure what that means, if anything. Any help is appreciated.
I have photos, but can't figure out how to attach.

Re: Identify Makers Mark & Year
HI and welcome to the forum.
Chester date letters were often sideways during the period which I think we are talking about but pictures (which you will have to upload to an online photo host) will allow confirmation. The following should help you:
How to Add Images
Posting Requirements
https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended. Do not use Photobucket or Dropbox.
Please embed your images rather than posting links and remember to use the 'Preview' button before submitting your post. If your images don't show up there we won't be able to see them either.

Re: Identify Makers Mark & Year
JD over WD is, as you have identified, John & William Deakin, trading as James Deakin & Sons of Sheffield. I think that the date letter is actually P (on its side) for 1915. Chester date letters appear both sideways and the right way up for this letter cycle (1901-1925) but I have not been able to work out what the reason was.
