Russian hallmark?

Post by emilgaigns »

Hi. Can someone help me identifying this hallmark? Looks Russian but I’m not so sure.

Thanks.

Mind my asking, but what makes you think it might be Russian?

It was advertised as “russian” and also it comes from an ex Soviet state. 85 can be a hallmark for silver in Russia.

Sorry to say this, but on these sites it has been stated many times that "Believe only in your eyes on your own knowledge. If you you don't know what you intend to buy, don't!" Unfortunately the seller usually tells you incredible stories of an objects origin. Only in order to distract you. The mark on your cane has nothing to do with neither Russia nor Soviet.

I haven’t bought it. I just only asked what it is.

What kind of hallmark do you think it is? French maybe?

Not French. I don't think it is a hallmark at all. More likely a maker's mark. is it actually a silver mark at all ? In your previous message you mentioned that "it comes from an ex. Soviet state". What state may I ask or were you satisfied with only "ex Soviet origin"!? Unfortunately you have been fed with typical seller's nonsense sales pitch.
