London Maker 1836 IH

Post by larkfield »

Have a pair of Sugar Tongs London 1836 with the maker IH or HI in an oval punch mark. I tend to favour IH as being the way up. Would this be John Harris or are there other possibilities. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Larkfield,
Can't find a HI to fit so it must be IH and I think your correct, John Harris the Fifth who entered his mark 22-11-1831 and had his workshop at 27, Nelson Street, City Road, London when your tongs were made,
Regards Trev.

Many thanks for information Trev. I did not know anything about John Harris other than name and it was the right period.
