I have a silver gold plated ratle that I think is French. There are 2 hallmarks in it. one I think is a Hase and the other I think are the initials A.M.Z. but I don not know for sure. Does somebody know what these hallmarks mean and tell me more about this product?
Looking forward the get more information about this ratlle.
French silver ratle
Re: French silver ratle
This object is called a “hochet” in French. It is indeed a rattle with an ivory soother/teether at one end.
The hare head in a right profile is the gold and silver standard mark for small objects made in Paris from 1819-1838. The poorly stamped initials should be the maker’s mark stamped in a lozenge-shaped reserve. Unfortunately, there is no AMZ listed in Arminjon, v. I. There appears to be a symbol over the M. If you could sharpen up the image, perhaps we could read the initials more clearly.
