This is another Jonathan Howell that I am having trouble reading
You can see the JH and the lion but the leopard city mark and date mark are problematic. I think the date mark is an "n" and if this is a London cane then it might be for 1908 or 1928?? I really need fresh eyes on this. Dognose?
Thanks!
John

Re: Another cane that I think has a London mark
I agree with you that this is the JH mark of Howell & Co and that it is a London hallmark. I also think that the date letter is "n". For me, from the evidence of the little flourishes on the side of the letter, it can only by the 1928 "n" as this was the style of the letters in the 1916-1935 date letter cycle.

PS: after looking at it a bit longer I wonder, from the relative height of the date letter compared with the whole punch, whether it might be "h" for 1923:

Hi,
To my eyes, 1923 edges it.

Thank you Phil and Trev! I cleaned it up a bit more and I think it might be an "n" ?
I forgot to mention that is has the Howell button. I don't know if this helps date it too?
