Scent bottle

Post by silvervault »

Hi there,
I've been trying to identify the maker of this scent bottle.Length of the bottle is 5,3cm , total length is 12,5 cm.
Presuming it is authentic,
I've come up with the following;
- Small kokoshnik, essayer Yakov Nikolayevich Lyapunov, St. Petersburg, 1898-1903
-Maker : Alexander Karlovich Dalman, 1880-1905
Is this attribution correct?
And does it fit with the quality of the item?
It is only marked on the roundel with the hook en underneath the bottle. Is it normal that the stopper is unmarked, from the little I know, all individual parts need to be marked, or is this an exeption because by stamping it the inner thread would be deformed?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Looks authentic Finnish born silversmith Дальман Александр Карлович.
On the other hand,I do not buy Russian silver any more;it is overpriced and too many fakes.Besides,cloisonne is not very complicated enameling technique and huge quantities of ecclesiastical items with cloisonne on base metals are offered for Greek Orthodox liturgy.
Of course,there is always China,India and Eastern Europe.

Meaning,it is easy to produce cloisonne as imperial Russian.Very lucrative.

Yes, it looks authentic, but....I little bit suspicious, the felling of Russia is not "right". Dalman made undoubtedly cloisonne objects, but still...AG2012 is absolutely right in his statement regarding Russian cloisonne objects. Well, it is only my personal opinion.

Dalman is very well known for his fine small enamel objects - page turner, scent boxes etc.
