Russian Silver Hallmark Identification

Post by emilgaigns »

Hello everyone.

Today I found an interesting silver piece, but can't really find a maker based on the hallmark.

Maker mark looks like a russian letter B and P.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Nice filigree box made by Vasily Popov (ВП) 1816-1868 and assayed by Ivan Avdeyev (ИА) 1852-1862. Both active in Moscow.

91 zolotnik has a millesimal fineness of 947.
Filigree is much easier to work with higher purity silver alloy. But take care; it is much softer and bends easily.
