Re: button Birmingham Date ?
The other aid to dating Birmingham is that the anchor is on its side 1859-1899. If 1924 the anchor would be upright.

Thank you all ever so much for you helpful quick responses. I have the Pocket Edition of Jackson's Hallmarks last copyright date 2000 page 84 where I found the hallmarks in question but shows the anchor upright for 1899-1900. I am familiar that the L&S is the makers mark Levi & Salaman as I have several other of their buttons.
Are there other silver hallmarks books I should check out? I will be posting some more buttons I have been unable to identify throughout my years of button collecting.
Thanks in advance
Debra

Re: button Birmingham Date ?
Reference books for hallmarks do not show exact representations of all sets of marks, although they don't tell you that; there can even be variations within a single year. The orientation of the Birmingham anchor does not seem to have been specified anywhere but has been derived from observation. I have tried, via my web site, to illustrate marks with real examples and to show major variations but it is still a work in progress with amendments being made as I recognise new variants.

Re: button Birmingham Date ?
I only replied with who the maker was, as you did not mention them in your initial post. Apologies for my contribution that was not needed.
