Need a historical perspective on my tiffany trophy cup

Post by NewYorkNewYork »

I acquired these tiffany trophy cups and it is marked Reproduction Original By Ludwig Heck About 1760. Was this man a german pennsylvania silversmith. If so then why is tiffany honoring him with reproducing his work. Take Care Newyorknewyork

Hi,
Yes, Ludwig (Lewis) Heck was an 18th century PA silversmith. Reproduction of antique forms have always had a good market and I would imagine that Tiffany's was simply tapping into it. The Tiffany pattern number dates the design to the 1920's, a period when there was a strong interest in all things early American. If the item did well, Tiffany would have produced it for years afterward.

Regards, Tom
