Hello,
I have bought the dutch 934/1000 silver box you may see here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bjRUmiek5Vp9dtTq5
This is cm 7x16x12,5 in size and g 448 in weight.
There are four marks:
1) the Minerva head should tell the regional assay office mark, but it's difficult to read the letter in the helmet (maybe "B" for Utrecht or "P" for Alkmaar).
2) the year letter is a kind of "f" so that this box should have been made in 1815.
3) the silversmith mark: "M" then under it "GG" and then under it a Delta plus L. I have looked for this mark but I was not able to find it.
4) the lion rampant with 1, meaning the silver 1st standard 934/1000.
Please, do you know who was this maker? And please, what do you think about this box?

Hi Luciano, welcome to the forum. The maker's mark M above GG above arrow is for Martinus Gerardus Geldenheim ( Gildenhuis, MG), registered in the city of Rotterdam , 1815/1817, year letter F for 1815. The Minerva's head regional assay office letter should be a D for Rotterdam.
The inscription of the name Alice, I believe, is a later addition. The box originated perhaps as a biscuit box.

I agree with you also about the inscription of the name Alice: it is surely a later addition, possibly made in 1880-1890...
There is also an idea about her identity: this box had been originally sold in 1969 by Auktionshaus Stuker, Bern, as belonged to Alix von Hessen-Darmstadt, who later became the last Tzarine of Russia, Aleksandra Fëdorovna Romanova, the beloved wife of Nicholas II...
