What-is-it Question LXIV.
was this used on a platter to present such foods as samosas or pakoras?

have you heard of paan or betel leaf? u put lots of spices on it and fold it into a triangular shape called 'giloree'. These pins prevented the folded triangles from unfolding. They were placed in a casket called 'Khaasdaan' for serving.
Paan is widely consumed in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and nearby Asian countries as a breath freshener.
