Trev, what was the relationship between Harris & Brownett and John Ivings?
There seems to be very little information on Ivings, might you know his working address?
John James Ivings was the owner of this firm, which was likely established in the late 1820's and traded under a multitude of names, for a very short period around 1851. Upon his death in 1851 he was succeeded by John Harris and Abraham Brownett.
The firm's address was 1, Richmond Buildings, Dean Street, Soho.
In the 1851 census both John Harris and John Ivings are listed at 1 Richmond Buildings. Harris is the head of the household and is described as "Goldsmith (Journeyman)" and Ivings (aged 19) is a "Goldsmith's Apprentice". It would appear that the registration of Ivings must have been some sort of figurehead for Harris's business. Ivings died in January 1852 and his burial is recorded in Norwood Cemetery on 27 Jan 1852.
